I want to clean some of the pre-installed stuff off my new A1; for example I have no need for MS Office or McAfee. The question is, can these items be simply uninstalled in the usual way without risk?

Also, the Launch Manager - I have no idea what this is or if it's important, but it starts up every time I boot the machine. What is it, what does it do, is it any use - and most important - is it safe to remove it?

Yes. They can be uninstalled in normal way. Do not remove only shared libraries - just in case...

That's application responsible for Function Keys - I would leave that if you use F-Keys...

Just to offer my experience here: I uninstalled Launch Manager, and my 'F-keys' still work. My 'Fn+F-keys' functions still work, as well. From what I have read, the launch manager app just displays what you are doing on the screen. I do not believe it affects the proper operation of the features in any way. I could be wrong...

With launch manager there is obviously a difference if you have installed XP Home or XP Pro, because if you are on XP Home some F keys might not work properly. I have had to reinstall the application, after I had deleted it without knowing this.

    Again, just from my experience...

Even with a completely non-acer OS like Fedora, the FN combos still worked. I think those functions are at a BIOS-like level, independent of the OS. Which combos were not working for you? I am on XP Home, and with no Launch Manager, all of my Fn functions work correctly...

Only F4 and F8 work for me without Launch Manager. Maybe the problem lies with bios, I am on 3301, it means an original version, but everything else work fine so I am hesitant to change it.
