Cant go online- pls help!

Hello, I bought an Acer one netbook about 2 months ago and have had no problems until last week, I turned it on as usual and waited for the "you are connected" balloon to appear but it dosent come up anymore. So I click on settings and go to network centre but i am unable to click on this icon (only this icon everything else is fine) I have checked the slider on the front and its not disabled so i have no idea whats wrong- any ideas please?
