I bought myself a 4gb usb stick and (using VMWare on my iMac) booted from the Aspire Linux CD - 40mins later I had myself a bootable USB drive, allegedly.

I can't actualy boot the Aspire from the drive - I see it listed when I F12 at boot time and I went into setup and pushed the USB drive up the to the top of the list in boot sequence. I do see brief activity on the drive at boot time (led on stick flashes).

I don't get error - it just boots from the internal drive as normal. I do see what looks like a linux file system on the drive (I am a linux newbie) looking with the file manager utility.

I'd be grateful for any guidance.

    thanks

thanks, I'll try this . . . I must admit that I had spotted your instructions but assumed they were only for if you didn't have the distribution CD or a pc with cd drive to use it with

I'll let you know how I get on. thanks
