Just convert your movies and store them on your A1 or on a SD-card. Use Handbrake to convert.

Buy a 16 GB SD-card and you can fit 22 700 MB rips.

A lot of hassle? Insert the DVD, click one button to rip and 15 minutes later you have a 700 MB rip.

Hmm, nice attitude, that will get results
Despite your need for an attitude adjustment I guess that someone will help you, let's hope it is sooner rather than later.

Most people here answer questions as best they can, not that many do mind reading...... Beldar was trying to be helpful form the information provided.

Please look at the concept that the One is built for, "lightweight, mobile computing",
not "add a load of extra boxes so it weighs as much as a full size laptop".
Maybe you bought the wrong machine for your requirements?

    Have a nice day.

VLC shouldn't have a problem with this.

id rather have a netbook that could play dvds with a small amount of effort required rather than a portable dvd player that has no internet connectivity or a full size laptop

I have a LG GSA-E60L Super Multi USB that works fine - no drivers or software required. The only strange thing is that the drive does not show up in the file manager until you put a disk in. Did you try putting a DVD in the drive to see if the system recognized it? Good luck.

I am looking for a slim USB external that is powered of the USB ports. Please post if you have any experience with those.
