Having spent hours trying to create an USB recovery device on three separate PC's I grudgingly resorted to buying one on eBay for £18. "What a rip off!" I hear you say!

With the benefit of hinsdisght, I realise that I should have tried a different memory stick, but hey ho!

The recovery usb is for my daughter's machine, and she is currently working out in Africa. As I'm going to be posting this to her, I would like to have a back up in case it gets lost in the post. I certainly don't want to fork out another eighteen quid!

Is there any way I can clone it on my XP machine?

Just copy the files on the memory stick to any hard drive. You can then transfer them to any memory stick.

    That didn't work. I tried.
My XP machine doesn't even "see" the files and reports the drive as only having about 100 megs on it.

You can do that by using winimage

    http://www.winimage.com/

I use it to clone bootable VMware ESXi server USB sticks...
