    Hi.

My Niece has an Acer laptop and I am trying to help her watch avi and other videos on it.

    Specs: - Aspire 0ne, Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.7.E, CPU Atom N270 @ 1.6GHz, mem 512MB, 8GB hard drive, Bios v0.3019.

I have installed VLC 0.8.6i Janus(wxWidgets interface), gcc ver 4.1.2 20070925 (RedHat 4.1.2-33), which I downloaded from the Acer site. When running avi video files, I only get sound and not picture.

Please help with settings or codecs to run avi files.

I am extreemly novice with the Acer and Linux systems, I understand and can operate Windows 7 fairly well.

I started the terminal and ran the following code, vlc -vv, the following is a log that appeard:

    [user@localhost home]$ vlc -vv

Linpus is a bit bugy and unmanteined. For those reasons, must linux users swapped it with more friendly and stable options. I suppose it's going to be hard to get support for Linpus misbehavior. Would you consider switching it for other options? If you like that kind of user interface, try Ubuntu 9.10 UNR.
