I've read up on the mod to add the Broadcom BCM70012 HD Decoder to the AAO, but I have seen for sale the very similar sounding BCM970012 card as well. Does anyone know the difference between the two if any? If the "9" version is better and also compatible, I'd like to get that instead..or vice versa. All I can discern is that the non-9 is for HP and the "9" is for Dell. Anyone have further insights? Thanks in advance!

I have a question. What is the benefit of this upgrade? I know if I were to connect my AAO to a HDTV or HD monitor or something I can play HD video that way, but what about not hooking it up to anything? Is there a performance upgrade for playing DVD's (via external drive), video files, or for games?

It installs a Directshow video filter (codec) which uses the broadcom card for video hardware acceleration.

Does not help games, but allows smooth playback of high bit rate video files.

Ok. So if I don't plan on playing too many videos, then this upgrade would not be worth it?
