Hey guys, just picked up an Aspire One yesterday and I gotta say I love it. Sorted the slow wifi issue, but other than that, great computer.

Anyway, main question I'm wondering is the brightness level. It doesn't seem as though there is all that many brightness levels. Even at the lowest brightness setting, its bright than my EeePC. Is it something to do with the fact that it's an LED backlight.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Here, I compiled this...
    http://disjunkt.com/xbrightness/
it's attached, but don't do like I did and immediately type "./xbrightness 0" as your screen will go pitch black and you won't be able to see what you're typing ;) - Recommend, start with "./xbrightness 65535" (which is normal brightness) and work down.
    Best -Duncan.

    note: requires "imake" to compile...

Interesting. It doesn't affect the LED output, but the brightness is changed through the contrast. Very effective. 10000 was quite soft on the eyes in the dark.

I don't to have to plug in a mouse to change my screen brightness, and also it just changes the brightness output to the monitor, it doesn't actually reduce the LED brightness. So theres no gain in battery life, and the screen is still really bright on the eyes at night.

I don't think the power savings would be worth it, led's have a fairly linear current draw during their 'on' stage. They also have a specific narrow range of current spec'd by their manufacturer. The AA1 likely is designed to dim the led's as much as is practical in terms of the led's lifespan and the current draw at the lower brightness levels.

Your best bet is to dim it using contrast controls. Theres lots of software out there that will do that for you.

Thanks mate :) So I guess Acer didn't think it was worth it to allow the screen to dim down like the Asus EeePC 701. My 701 can go almost off basically.
