    When I play a movie

I hear the sound perfectly, but the video isn't working.

when vlc opens the video channel is defaulted to disabled, but when i switched it to channel one, there is still nothing.

    please help...

Turn off video compositing in Settings/Window Manager Tweaks, or if you want compositing, go to Output video modules in VLC and switch to X11.
