best os for ao722

    Hey all,
    I just purchased an AO722 and it comes with Windows 7 starter, so I need a new operating system for my netbook.
    I have experience with both Linux and Windows, so either won't be a problem for me.
    Previously I had an ASUS netbook and tried Ubuntu with it but I wasn't satisfied with the performance of it. Especially for some reason the fan was running at a higher rpm so I had to switch to Windows XP and everything was fine. I was wondering if there are such issues with Linux systems and aspire one's.
    I'm not going to perform image editing or so, by the way. Basically I'm looking for a stable and quiet system with good performance.

    Windows XP, 7 or some Linux distro. Which one would you recommend?
