    HI everyone,

I have an Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition laptop (G513QY) and I recently encountered an issue where the laptop keyboard lights and power button indicator would turn on, but the screen would remain black/some backlight is visible.

The laptop doesn't seem to be booting into windows. I have tried unplugging and replugging as well as all teh power button holding techniques.

It had worked perfectly until about a few hours ago. I had nothing done to the laptop and I'm hoping that it's only a boot issue that I can resolve. Any and all help is appreciated

    Hey there,

I’ve experienced something similar with my Yoga 7 14 Inch AMD Ryzen 7 laptop recently, so I thought I’d chime in with a few suggestions that helped me resolve a similar black screen issue.

First off, it sounds like a potential issue with the display or graphics driver not initializing correctly, which is common in these situations. Here’s what I’d recommend trying:

    1. Check External Display:
It might sound simple, but if your laptop is booting normally but the screen isn’t showing anything, try connecting it to an external monitor or TV. Use an HDMI cable if possible. If the external display works, it might point to an issue with the laptop’s internal display or GPU.

    2. Hard Reset:
Since you've already tried unplugging and holding the power button, I’d recommend doing a "hard reset" to ensure that any lingering static charge is removed. For that:

    • Turn off the laptop completely (remove the power cable, and if possible, take out the battery).
    • Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
    • Plug it back in (with or without the battery) and try powering it up again.
    3. Boot into Safe Mode:
If you’re able to get the laptop to respond with the backlight, you could try booting into Safe Mode to see if Windows is causing the problem. To do that:

    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Turn it on and immediately press the F8 or Shift + F8 key repeatedly to get into recovery mode.
    • Once in recovery, you should have an option to boot into Safe Mode.
If you can get into Safe Mode, it could be a driver issue (especially graphics drivers), and you may want to roll back any recent updates or reinstall your graphics drivers.

    4. BIOS Update/Reset:
When I faced a similar issue with my Yoga 7 14 Inch AMD Ryzen 7 laptop, I found that sometimes resetting the BIOS or updating it helped resolve boot problems. To reset the BIOS, hold the power button for 10 seconds. If you're able to access the BIOS menu (press F2 or Delete during boot), check if there’s a newer version available and consider updating it.

    5. Internal Component Check:
Lastly, if you're comfortable opening the laptop (or if it’s under warranty), you can try reseating the RAM and SSD, as loose components can sometimes cause boot issues.

I hope one of these solutions helps! If not, you may want to consult with ASUS support or a professional repair service, as it could potentially be a hardware failure. Fingers crossed that it’s something simple like a corrupted driver or a display connection issue.

Let me know how it goes!
