I'm currently looking at buying a laptop for college and have decided this looks like a fairly good all around laptop. The only issue is the 1tb hdd. I know that I can change it to an SSD but I don't want to have to re download windows onto it. Is it possible that if I open up the laptop and change the HDD before I boot it on then connect the HDD via USB would I then be able to boot it with the SSD and then download windows from the HDD? I don't know much about computers so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum

You can not boot and run from another drive, just fit a ssd drive in the hdd slot and use the hdd
    as an external backup drive.

This item of software will help you to copy/clone your complete system including the operating
system over to the new ssd drive.

Connect the new ssd drive with an external cable copy over the complete system using the software
wizard, when done swap over the drives.
