    G'day Folks

I got a funny problem with my aspire one netbook (XP Home SW Edition) ever since I bought it a year ago. Every now and then all of the sudden the netbook switches off during operation. No blue screens or fault messages, just a blackout as if you unplug the power cable without having the battery attached to the netbook.
It recovers normally after pressing the start button again.
Sometimes the netbook runs for weeks without shutting down the system (i.e. normal way, no blackout) and then again it might happen twice daily.
This fault appears independent of the battery loading state, loading/charged state transition and both with battery pack attached or solely with power cable source connected.
Further it happens both during active use (e.g. entering data or web-browsing) and when the netbook just runs with screensaver on and no active use of software etc.

Did any of you ever come across similar trouble, any idea about how to fix that?
I just travel most time of the year and so far always tried to avoid sending it for a warranty claim.

Thanks in advance and kind rgds

    Eric

I'd try booting while tapping F8 and selecting the "Disable automatic restart" option. Just to make sure there's no BSOD's.
Otherwise it's possible that your power lead could be damaged.

    Hi Swarvey

    Thanks for your kind attention.
I'd rather think it is not the (external) cable, as it appears also with exclusive battery power supply and with power cable & battery as backup source.
And it is also no BSOD, but a suddenly dead netbook. When restarted by the power-on button it just boots up normally, no system error messages or else.
So far I didn´t dare to open the netbook and check the internal power lines. Presumably both power jack and battery connectors are SMD mounted on the print board and there is little to check but lots to get damaged by static discharge, when fiddling around with the board or re-assembling the covers.
Most of all I was wondering if there are any known hardware deficiencies with the board power supplies for these aspire one netbooks that required exchange of boards or similar measures with other users of same netbook type.

    Greetings

    Eric
