    Newbie, please be patient.
I have downloaded and installed the driver for Epson DX 5000, all in one. It seemed to install ok.
But the printer can not see it, the aspire see's the printer ok, but the driver does not show in the Epson Utility, just the drivers the Linpus system installs<:-(
How do i get them to meet please?

Also where do the driver installs live?

    Thanks
    Baz

I'm not familiar with what Epson offers, but have read that Epson is one of those printer manufacturers considered to support Linux better than most. Another one is HP.

You might find it by going here ...

    Cheers.

Typically these "drivers" are ppd files that would reside in /usr/share/cups/model. But where they reside shouldn't really concern you. I'd suspect that installing the driver placed the required files in the required places. Now if you go back into Cups using the URL I gave you, you should be able to install that printer. At least that's the way it's supposed to work. :)

    Cheers.

Possibly you need to update cups. Here are the steps:

    Open a terminal and do:

    sudo yum -y update fedora-release

to make sure you're using the latest repos. After that completes, do:

    sudo yum -y update cups

This will bring in the newest cups available at the repo.

Then after cups is updated, try going to that url again. Hope this works for you.

    Cheers.

    Thank you.
I followed your instructions and i can now get into the url .
The page can see my printer but if i try a test print, my printer does nothing.
I followed the link for drivers but my model of printers are not there and i can't see any tab to update.
    where next ?
    Thanks again
    Regards

I don't know where you got the Epson driver you installed? Did it come with the printer or did you download it from somewhere? Now that you have updated cups, you can try installing the driver again. I don't have an Epson printer, so can't give you any real info on how to proceed.

I did find this site ...

    http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/spc/DL1.do

Where you can select your printer, Distribution: probably FedoraCore, Dist. Version, other. Then at the next page download the RPM. There is a link to a README on that page that gives instruction details. Supposed to work with cups.

Maybe someone who has that printer will assist you? Good luck.

    Cheers.

I'm sure I saw one of the radio buttons there for your particular printer (DX5000). But maybe the drivers are the same anyways?

For the scanner you'll need to install the xsane package, available in the repos.

    sudo yum install xsane

    Cheers.
