I can convert the Acer DVD to ISO and send it to you via Skype or bittorrent if you wish?
(2gb I think, even less as 1gb USB-key is enough to restore Linspire)
Just tell me with a Personnal Message. Many thanks for all! :) (hosting+forum)

The .iso i posted is the only Linpus Linux Lite distro available on the Linpus website.

I haven't got an AA1 yet, could some tell me if a back up disk is included, or is it classic acer style of using a recovery partition.

Yeah, Linpus doesn't have the version that comes with the Aspire One on their website.

The One comes with a Recovery DVD, there's no recovery partition (at least not on the 8GB SSD model, the 120GB HDD one might have it). You can either do a recovery using an external DVD reader, or use the DVD to make a recovery USB and boot from that with your One.

excellent. i hope the 120gb doesnt have a recovery partition. but i suppose it would be ok if its something like 10gigs. not too much of an impact on the drive.

got a legit copy of xp home anyways

Has anyone tried that out and seen if it needs any more drivers? I'd love to have a lightweight Linux distro on my One without worrying about the darn "simplified" home page.

I am getting really miffed with that home page and the fact that Acer have "simplified" other progs in the "Acer" distro.
Tempting to go with Linpus, I wonder what we are all missing out on???
Bet it needs a stack of extra drivers.

    Hi Guys

When i went to create a USB Recovery disk it erased the data on my secondary IDE hard drive on my main PC instead of the plugged-in USB Flash DRive that it said it was picking to do the disk creation on.

I have now lost all my 60GB of data that IDE drive. I also tried to it a second time once i had re-initialised the drive and it re-formatted it again eventhough it specifically says that it is picking the USB Flash DRive.

    Fuckin Nuts!!

Any had this done happen to them also...

The laptop i used the Recovery [Live]CD in has no secondary ide drive to delete, so it could only find the USB Drive. Sorry to hear your troubles, though:(

By the way, there's at least one linpus_aao.iso torrent available that appears to match the optical media that came with my aao. You can either burn&boot it, or load it into a generic VMware livecd appliance. It works.

Just in the name of balance, may I point out that

    1. Linpus Linux is a lightweight distro, and

    2. Xfce's desktop doesn't natively support icons, so Acer were going to have to supply something that would meet users' expectations. As addons go, the homepage isn't all that "darn'd" particularly given the AAO's reduced screen realestate.

After all, any user interface that your grannie can use must have something to recommend it. At least there's no "Start" button for her to use to switch off (You know who I'm talking about.)

The acer desktop is fine for what it is, it is just that I am not sure that I like it.
Linpus Lite is an option, and it has a lot of features enabled that the acer distro does not.
Depends on what peripherals work (or don't work) once I get Linpus Lite running.

Start button to stop - hate the stuff, see my sig !
