I think there must be something wrong with it. I was trying to resize the NTFS partition so I could install ubuntu. But I tried both Ubuntu installation CDs, as well as the Gparted liveCD. It always tries to resize, then fails. You think it has something to do with the hidden recovery partition, or is it the HDD itself?

I ran XP's Disk Management tool, but when I right-click on the drive, I don't have the option to "create new partition". Weird.

Anyone know how to create new partitions on the aspire one? (windows XP)

Mine has started doing this after using Ext2. I'm just going to man up and buy a new harddrive for it. I tried to e-mail Acer about the warranty covering it and they asid that they only accept questions through the call center and to expect quite a wait. Thanks for the customer service Acer; Next time I'll be sure to choose Asus.

I meet the same problem, use the free Easus partition manager. It works very well.
    Now I have C, D, E - all running smoothly,

    Regards

    Here's what I did:
    1. Defrag the XP partition
    2. Boot Ubuntu/Fedora/Puppy live USB (donn't recall which I used for this task)
    3. Make sure all partitions on HDD are unmounted
    4. Run gparted to shrink the XP partition.
