I purchased an Acer Aspire One 8.9" for my company as we are looking to transition to them. Everyone who would be using one was happy with them, but just before I went out to buy a bunch more - I realized that the latest software upgrade we are getting, there are screens in the program that are too big to fit on the 8.9" screen, running in 1024x768 mode even.

I think that it would fit OK on the 10.1" screen, but can't figure out how I could test the program before purchasing one and trying it myself. Anyone have any thoughts?

You don't say which OS you are using but in any event you should know that the 10.1 inch AA1 has the same 1024x600 resolution that the 8.9 inch has. I believe the 11.6 inch has quite a bit higher resolution.

Sorry, I am talking about Windows XP. I am aware that it has the same resolution, but if it is a larger screen, then the viewing area should be increased and as such, there is a higher probability that it will fit. Make sense?

The text will look bigger and pictures will look bigger but the viewing area will stay the same. I have both an 8.9 and a 10.1 inch and the viewing area is identical but the text is a little easier for my old eyes to read. I have some windows in both XP and Linux that are too big for the screen. for Linux I just grab a part of the window in the middle and hold down the Alt key and move the window up so I can see the bottom. I don't use Windows much any more so I don't know how to do the same thing in XP but from what I have rear here in the forum there is a method for doing the same thing. BTW The only 11.6 AA1's I've seen come with Vista Basic.

OK, I appreciate the assistance. I will look into other manufacturers then.

The 11.6 comes with 1,366 x 768 resolution and that may work for you. Most all the netbooks as far as I know have about the same display ratio.

Things will get bigger, but no, viewing area will still be the same since it's also 1024x600 for 8.9 and 10in.

The posts above are correct. Get the 11incher so that you'll get 1366x768. OR you can go the HP way, and get a 10in that's 1366x768... The latest version of the HP 2140 netbook. ;)

<rant>This actually hits upon my biggest complaint regarding netbooks and notebooks with larger screens - the lack of higher resolution. At 134 dpi (to which Xorg defaults on my AA1) an 11.3-inch screen should be giving us a 1280x800 display; and those oh-so-common 15-inch notebooks should be able to match my desktop's 1680x1050 display</rant>
