I investigated the apks of pc games floating around and found it actually pretty easy to play some major pc games on mobile. I'd go to fmhy.net to find trusted sites but the one from there I use for android apks is APKVISION.org. I grabbed hollow knight, silk song, blasphemous, dead cells and gta SA from there. So far I've installed silksong, dead cells and blasphemous on 3 different phones and they worked fine. I recommend the mod versions with built in cheats, which does require special app permission to display the cheat menu over top of the game.

Of course your phone specs will determine how well they run but you can adjust the resolution and effects levels in most of these games. A modern dimensity or snapdragon is best, with at least 4gb ram and above. I have not installed GTA SA so far so can't comment on fully 3d games yet. I don't plan on consistently gaming on my phones outside of a mobile console while traveling or bored out and about etc

Motorola modern phones have been using either the dimensity 6300 or the snapdragon 4 gen 1 which of either works fine on silksong, deadcells etc More RAM helps of course. A backup cricket phone the icon 6 I got for $9 struggles at native resolutions for both games, you have to turn it down, lock it to 30 etc The Icon 6 uses a very budget low end cpu, not sure about the gpu there. Any mid range phone should work fine.

It is quite an adjustment to playing pc games with screen controls though. It's doable but takes a lot more patience and precision and the cheats like godmode are almost necessary. So therefore I used my xbone controller with a usb c adapter to plug into my phone and it powered up and worked fine natively in those games! Really easy. So therefore I've got a decent handheld console in my phones! If you have the latest xbox controller with usbc inputs it's even easier just have a usbc to ubsc cable and you're good.

You can also use bluetooth to connect but you'll need batteries in your controller. It might be possible to plug the controller into a power source like a pc etc and just use bluetooth to connect to your phone idk haven't tried that. Cable always easier imo.

You can also use an android emulator to play up to ps2 and switch games on your phone. This is really nice but I have not tried it yet.

I think Super Mario 3d world would be really cool to play on my phone. The SM Galaxy games are my all time favorites of the 3d mario games and I'm thinking they'd work just fine on my phone the only problem is the wonky WII remote controles which would be a challenge imo especially with on screen controls but maybe not. I have enough of a hard time with using a controller to play those two games but I have done it on both. 3d World has the common control schemes so that would make it much easier to do. I wish someone would port native APK files for these games so we don't need the emulator program layer.

Of course I've played 2d OG marios on old phones since way back.

So yeah, the trick with android gaming if you want games that have built in cheats is actually trying to figure out what sources to trust. I don't recommend games with built in cheats or mods on a phone you access banking etc

Grab a decent second phone to game on which is just for non personal stuff and that preferably does not have access to any mobile data. I grabbed two closeout phones that will work for the handful of games I'm interested in. A Moto G 2024 with a snapdragon cpu and an adreno gpu, that was $15 closeout brand new. It's locked to Boost network which I have no interest in using so it's just a wifi and gaming, general entertainment device. I could take a slight risk and go to one of the unlocking sites for about 30 bucks to get it unlocked if I want to later on.

The second phone I got brand new is the crappy Icon 6 locked to the crappy Cricket network. It was $9. It runs Silk Song at reduced settings since it only has a helio cpu and who knows what gpu. But it'll run emulators of most games below Wii ok I think. And simpler slower games. I think I played Blasphemous on it just fine. Both these phones only have 4gb ram.

I also have a Moto Power 2025 with 8gb ram, mediatek 6300 and Mali gpu which plays Dolphin emulator which I use for Mario Galaxy 2 and it works fine. I doubt I'll do more gaming then hollow knight, silksong, dead cells, blasphemous, sonic 2d games, emulators up to Wii, etc. It's a once in a while thing not something all the time.

Sites I generally trust are the usuals, mobilism, apkvision, liteapk and I've got some stuff from apk award. Rock mods, AN1. For the ease of playing with a touchscreen I prefer modded games with built in cheat menus which are generally more risky.

I've also looked at the phone holders like gamesir, backbone, razr etc but idk if they're worth the money to me. They turn it into a sort of PSP like experience or my old 3ds which I bought a controller like holder for. You can get a first gen razr kishi for about 25$ open box which isn't bad at all. For more recent ones they'll run you 40+ which for the infrequency of this for me is not worth it.

You can also just get a simple mounting clip for any controller you already own. I have an xbone controller. But this requires bluetooth or a physical cable connection. Kinda more awkward and clunky. For BT you will need batts for your controller too. The clip can be had for less then 10$. For a controller that's built to hold your phone it'll be a bit more. Good budget options but I think the razr kishi at 25 or less would be just more clean and easy.

From trying Silk Song, Dead Cells, Blasphemous they support direct plugin of my xbone controller via cable to my phone, really nice.

So yeah this is just for traveling or out and about waiting, it's not a replacement for proper pc gaming. As you play you get better at the on screen controls so there's no need for holder and such imo. Emulation of older games also opens up a safe way to get a ton of great games.

You can pickup a cheap older phone for not too much and just use it as a portable gaming system offline.

A dedicated android portable makes little sense at the prices I've seen. You're better off just getting a steam deck which you can also use torrented games with which there are way more then android ports. Or just get a solid older flagship with a premium cpu and gpu then get a cheap holder or just adapt to the on screen controls.
