Hey! Anyone that is currently on Windows 7 and has the latest GMA Drivers, ANYONE! does aero performance run slow or sluggish? If not can you tell me how you got it to perform better?

    Hello!

I speak from personal experience when I say that with 1Gb RAM (even with a tweaked system like mine), Win7 Aero is pretty useless. You can notice a small (yet annoying) lag when opening new windows, typing into browser address bar etc. I always love eye candy, but the slowdown was not worth it for me.

My verdict - it runs, and runs pretty much OK, but can get annoying for everyday use.

I suppose it will run smooth with 2Gb RAM and I am planning to upgrade soon :).

    It is what it is...

From your tag, it looks like you are running Win 7 "Ultimate". That version may be hindering your performance to some degree. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium WITHOUT Aero and I don't see that it's dragging my performance down below what it was with XP. I do have 2GB RAM installed.

IMHO, the computer does a fairly nice job as a "road warrior" for light duties and surfing the internet away from home. At HomeBase, the computer mostly sits on the shelf as I favor 2 Apple computers.

From reading posts here, I think some people expect too much from their netbooks.

I am running Ultimate and it runs Aero fine with 2GB ram... 1GB is too little for satisfactory performance.

My netbook has 2 Gb RAM, but Aero is uncomfortably sluggish.
    Graphics drivers 5.2.1, BIOS 3211.

    WEI:
    Processor 1.9
    Memory 4.2
    Graphics 2.9
    Gaming graphics 2.3
    Primary hard disk 5.9

I've heard some people have Graphics index more than 4, they should have good Aero experience.

Wait, how did they get a 2.0 in Processor? is that even an Aspire A0751h? And I have better Graphics rating, so how is it possibly running Aero good? I thought it depended on the graphics card. Or was it ram?

    Look at mines here

1 or 2 Gb of RAM - it doesn't matter for this benchmark.
I wonder why our Graphics performance differs so much. I've tested it multiple times with different drivers and BIOSes and it always was about 2.9.

i've read the most you can OC these to is 1.45 and it be stable.. (i play around with SetFSB too much) i didnt notice much difference once i got past that i decided not to push my luck.. so if you try it just be careful, the good thing about SetFSB is it only applies its changes any time you set it and not upon start up.. but just be careful!

My aero desktop evaluation is 4,5. Looks great and I've overclocked the processor to 1,45 but after 30min it reboots. It's stable at 1,40. I woudn't go any farther.

You must be running an a0751h, z520.

Check your driver version. Intel Support Drivers (Google that) reported that a now-superseded GMA 500 driver gave spuriously high Windows Aero scores. If you are running the latest driver please confirm the 4.5, I'm not seeing that on a regularly clocked z520 - and let me know what utility you are using for overclocking so I can try it too!

Exactly, model is 751h, z520, gma 500. I'm using latest drivers (2023) downloaded from intel site. I haven't heard about superseded drivers but I'm gonna google it. I'm using setfsb to oc. It's really simple. I'm reading here http://www.netbookmarket.net/intel-gma950-vs-gma500/ that max shared video memory for gma 500 is 256mb but in my case, the video memory is 763mb. I saw that using dxdiag. Can someone tell me if those are the same numbers you're gettng. I guess most of the people doesn't get 763mb of video memory and that's why they don't get 4,5 in aero desktop evaluation. Please check your dxdiag so we can compare.
Note that I get 4,5 in aero desktop evaluation with and without oc, plus I'm using latest bios in acer site.

Under Vista, the release notes state that the assessment scores are too high:

    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17995/e ... ta_gfx.htm

When I installed Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit to run on an Intel 40gb SSD, my scores dropped from 4.5 or so to 2.9.

This is the latest Win 7 driver, Ver:5.0.0.2023:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 0&lang=eng

You are running the most current driver then.

Maybe the release notes for the Win7 driver don't make note of the spuriously high scores. On the other hand, why aren't I getting them?

Oh well. I'd be happy if I could just run Hulu 480 p full screen....

I really don't know what to think but I'm using Win 7 Home Premium. I have a question for you. When I open the dxdiag, it says that I have directx 11, but in the graphics console clicking information it says that I have directx 10. Which one is correct?
