Hey there, I'd like to install some software and can't >(

    Using Linpus Linux.

Try to install, or to open "add remove software" and it says
"Unable to retrieve software information. ...
Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: updates-source. Please verify its path and try again."

    Internet works fine though...

    Can you help me?
Thanks from Tierra del Fuego, mart

Are you behind a hardware router ?
Try connecting the One to the net directly and see if that helps.

What happens if you plug that address into an ordinary browser?

(I'm trying to see if there is an issue getting the file at all, or whether we are looking for something specific to yum; you're right that there seem to be a few cases of this around).

Thanks for your quick answers everybody,

unfortunately sudo yum install fedora-release only gives
    fedora 100% |====| 2.1 kB 00:00
revolving mirrorlist with no valid mirrors (...)
    just as for the others...

Any answers to the other questions?

For what it's worth, I just got an 'Error 4' on a Fedora mirror: followed by a 530 (too many users) response from the relevant server. I don't know of any particular reason why the fedora mirrors should be overloaded, but I do wonder whether there is any geographical pattern to the current issues people are reporting with getting connections: there may be a couple of mirrors down somewhere in the world, leading to others in the same area overloading.

In an ordinary browser there is no problem. I can see the mirror list as follows:

    # repo = fedora-8 arch = i386 Using Internet2 country = AU
    http://ringtail.its.monash.edu.au/pub/f ... ng/i386/os
    http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/fedora/linu ... ng/i386/os
    http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/fedo ... ng/i386/os
    http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/fedora/ ... ng/i386/os
    http://mirror.optus.net/fedora/linux/re ... ng/i386/os
    http://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/fedo ... ng/i386/os

Right; now what happens if you plug each of those URLs into a browser?

There's a possibility that the mirror system is letting you down here; it would be interesting to know whether any of the other people who've had this issue are in Australia. If it does prove to be a mirroring issue, there is a way of pointing your system to a specific mirror elsewhere, at least to do the fedora-release install.

    Hey there,

after checking out some other forums/google searches, I simply untagged the repositories "update source" and "update" and now something more is working.

    Dangerous? Good?

    Cheers, mart

That's interesting. I too am behind a D-Link Router. It is: DSL-G604T. So it may be a router problem?
