    Hi All,

Can someone please give me exact instructions as to how to add the Gimp icon to the Fun section of my desktop. I can see that I have to modify the /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml file and add the line for Gimp, however I don't have the fainest idea of the exact line I have to add.

I guess something along the lines of:

    <app sequence="5">/usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop</app>

I've add the above line, and the Gimp Icon shows on my desktop and I can open Gimp, however I also get a dialogue box that pops up and I get the following message:

    Gimp Message

Opening '/home/user/%U' failed: No such file or directory

    Can someone please assist

    Many thanks

    Mark

I haven't installed the GIMP so I'm guessing a little here (based on my Opera install - viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1531) that the %U error is from a line in gimp.desktop that ends in %U.

Try editing that "Exec= " line in gimp.desktop and hopefully the error will disappear. Make a backup of the original file in case you have to try out a couple of alternatives!

(I haven't addressed the icon issue as it sounded from your post as if you had solved that)

    Hi,

Here's how I got things working:

    1. Download and install Gimp via the package manager.
    2. In terminal open up group-app.xml file
    (Sudo su -)
    (mousepad /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml file)
    3. Navigate down until you find the group section that starts with <id>7</id> and add the following line:
    <app sequence="5">/usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop</app>
    4. Save and close.
    5. Go back to the open terminal window & open up Thunar
    (Sudo thurnar)
    6. Navigate to the following folder:
    /usr/share/applications
    7. Scroll down and right click on the Gimp icon, open up properties & click on the Launcher tab. In the second box (command) delete U% so the line simply reads Gimp 2.4
    8. Re-boot and hopefully you find the new Gimp icon on the Fun desktop

    Thanks!
Well I can't get further than to /usr/. There is no /share/ folder. I found a /share/ folder under /.local/ and a sub folder call
ed /applications/ ( file:///home/user/.local/share/applications/). This folder contains only one file: /defaults.list which in turn contains the following:
    "[Default Applications]
    application/x-executable=linpus-web.desktop
    audio/x-wav=pcmmvp.desktop"

That's all... Could the file I'm looking for be located somewhere else ?

Er... I found it... sorry. It didn't occur to me that I should actually write the command line.

I also cannot a Gimp but for different reasons.

I added The Gimp following a macles listing from the Acer FTP site.

Gimp works OK when typing "gimp" from the terminal window, but I have no icon. An icon seems to have been added for Gthumn though.

    If i add <app sequence="5">/usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop</app> nothing happens.

Which probably makes sense given that ls -all /usr/share/applications/ does not list Gimp at all.

    ¿Any clues?

Actually it had happenned. Bur the icon is a generic one, not a Gimp icon. It would still be nice to have the Gimp icon.

I'm a Linux newbie and I'm not sure if this is the best way, but after some trial & error this worked for me:

    <app icon="gimp.png" name="GIMP" sequence="3">/usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop</app>

If you want GIMP to show up as the 5th icon on the section, change the number after "sequense" to 5.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi
Can you tell me what you mean by this? Editing the "Exec=" line? I have the same error and am a total newbie.
    Thanks
