Acer M5-823 very slow networking

    I have a new acer m5-823 running windows 8. The network speed is very slow (.5 to 1.5 Mbps compared to 15 Mbps at the same time from my other lapbook).
    The network device is an Intel dual band wireless N 7260.
    I contacted acer support and we reinstalled the device driver and refreshed the operating system, but it didnt improve speeds.
    Any suggestions what else I can do?
    I have 14 days to return the laptop but would prefer to get it working properly.

    OP here. model number is M5 583P.
    I found a new driver on the intel site (newer than that given to me by acer last night) and installed it. However download speed is one third of my other laptop. Upload sppeds are identical. What can it be?
