    Re: Ram upgrade

I have been reading all posts people have writed and, anyway, I think I misunderstand two things:

    1. This week I'll pick up my acer one and the shop assistant told me I can upgrade the memory easily. So the conclusion is clear: is he cheat me? I will see this week.

    2. If I want the acer to install Skype and little more, I think that 512 MB is enough, isn't it?

    Thanks for all

    Re: Ram upgrade

I just got off the phone with Acer USA customer support, and the rep told me that, as long as I was just going to upgrade the RAM, it wouldn't void the warranty unless I messed something else up in the process. That's enough for me.

    Re: Ram upgrade

Unfortunately for me the following module wouldn't work:

    PNY DDR2 pc2-4200/3200 1GB 533/400MHz

    This was Newegg.com item #20-236-310

This was a pain in the arse.

hmmm, this is the RAM I am using. AOA110 US model with the Intel SSD. What didn't work about it, because i've had a few 'odd' things happen with the SSD not always being recognized

    Re: Ram upgrade

Seems that my problem is a faulty ram chip.
I have the same chip (though 2GB version) in my eee, at it works just fine. When I tried putting the 1GB in the eee though, it booted, but gave me all kinds of strange artifacts in the OS.

Is it possible that the One damaged the memory chip?

Im gonna setup a thread where everyone can post what RAM does and doesn't work.

Make things a bit easier to read.

    Re: Ram upgrade

Sorry, bad days at the work.

Well, I bought my Acer yesterday in the evening. I want the netbook like a present for myself and because I need Skype to call to mobile from abroad this summer. For this, I think Linpus will be enough.
I have installed Skype, no problem, but I can see the icon in the desktop. Anyway, the RAM by now looks enough, at least, for the things I want to use, but I've seen in the computer a cap with two screws. This weekend I can't, but I will open next week and I'll see if I can add RAM. Could it be a different model for Spain?
    Best regards

    Re: Ram upgrade

I just want to add what I discover from personal experience, as I keep the original Linpus on my One ( customize it for sure :p ) I give a try for memory upgrade.
I test my configuration with 2 x 512MB, but I discover no change at all or quicker feeling using games for example.
Even Quake3 it's not running faster, it was already very nice and quick with only 512MB what I feel very surprising to me first.
For me it means that 512 is enough if you want to keep the Linux os running, in term of type of memory I would say that ddr2-667 is the supported type ( 4200S )

    Re: Ram upgrade

That is odd, I have the European memory (box marked www.pny.eu) from PC World UK - PNY DDR2 PC2-4300 1GB 533mhz it is working fine, (two hours so far).
That issues do you have with the PNY ram?

    Re: Ram upgrade

Hi, I have opened the cap I spoke before and it's nothing related with memory, it's a empty space I don't understand why. Anyway I think that 512 MB with Linpus will be enoguh.
    Regards

    Re: Ram upgrade

I think it´s there for the future 3G compatible version. The WWAN card will be under it. Actually there is a place on the motherboard for pci-e connector under there. It's just missing the socket, maybe it's possible to install/solder one

    Re: Ram upgrade

533mhz is the supported type, the chispet doesnt underclock 667mhz memory and some people have had problems consequently.

Check your own RAM thread... there are a lot of people successfully using 667MHz memory.

Indeed. I took a risk with 667 and it was worth it. I posted a reply in the other thread, A-data seems to work.
