Hm, only thing that'd definitely work would be to do a reinstall from dvd or usb stick (2GB or up). That would at least have the advantage of getting some experience with the reinstall procedure and maybe also fix other things you might have mucked up while mucking with the files

    Good luck, R

Haha, I was just about the resort to that, but the recovery disk does not work! I boot the disk and select make a recovery usb, but it just starts a loading bar and freezes..... seems someone else on this forum also has the problem, dont kn9ow how to fix it.

heres what my desktop looks like now

    Did you find a repair?

    I can top your problem.

I have 4 of these panels with the ten pointed star.

They run from the bottom of the screen to the top of the lower two panels.

If you hover over the star, the message is "New Item. This item has not yet been configured."

I can move them around and stack them up, but they make the screen unusable.

I think I wass trying to drag and drop a Thunderbird icon.

I knew I should have left it alone.

    The answer is easy.
I found it elsewhere on this forum.

    Go to "panel manager."
Delete any or all panels except panel one.

If only it were that easy - I did that, and have the panel back finally, but it's completely blank and I cannot figure out how to make it work "correctly." I give up. Between this and the non-responsive Network Center following a power-down on battery discharge, it's system recovery time. :x

This happened to me a while ago and though I never was able to retrieve the original task bar, I was able to mock up something similar using one of those blank panels. BTW, I found the network/network manager never worked again until I got a bottom panel going again.

Use this link to learn how to drag and drop icons into a blank panel. http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/view ... f=13&t=736

    Hope it works for you.

This LINUX thing is a bit more hands-on than I had hoped.

I had done the same thing, and had to manually recreate a new panel as a replacement. The only thing that seems amiss now is I've got no battery life icon anymore, and don't know how to get it back on the panel. Anyone?
