Can I receive more signals or achieve more range by running the wifi card off non XP software? I know I can turn off the XP software, but where do I find a good alternative software package (perhaps it's already on the AA1)?

In short I would say no! It depends on the wireless router you are connecting to and how far it can push the signal, how many walls the signal has to go through, how many other users are using the signal. A wireless router utilising 802.11b has typical indoor range of between 20 - 50 meters and if using 802.11g 20 - 100 meters but remember the pther parameters I mentioned above must be taken into account.

To improve the signal from your router you could try a using high gain antenna. Check your routers manual for details of accessories.

    Hope this helps. :)
