My Acer One wnet AWOL last night and all it would show was power and battery charged light with a totally black screen. There is a 44 page thread on this but here is what brought mine back to the living:
    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html

Worked like a charm and reset the bios to default.
Just make sure you make the file name change in the instructions.
    What a help macles was!

P.S. Acer doesn't update unless the AC power is connected so don't just run on the battery.

OK so is there a link between BIOS and BLACK SCREEN?

I wasn't updating my BIOS but WAS installing (or trying to as it has been a pain) XP and then get this ....

The link you gave wasn't working ..

Try the link again it works fine here. I wasn't updating bios either, just changing some XP settings.
In my case the rotuine described didn't update the bios it just reset the exisitng version.

So far (touch wood) I have only had to resort to the BIOS recovery routine once. My AA1 got bricked afer rebooting following installation of a bunch of Windows XP updates. IIRC, I had also left a USB stick inserted during the reboot.

just wanted to say major thanks for this. I was just greeted with a blank screen and at first thought it was the hard disk that had crashed. Two minutes after reading this thread and a quick download and Im back up and running YEAH :D :D

It is a life saver. I haven't had it happen again but I have the USB stick in my travel bag just in case.
