Just bought an 8Gb Linux AA1 as a portable addition to my windows PC and I would like to use my Seagate FreeAgent external drive with both machines.

When I plug it it into the AA1, it gets detected and shows as "FreeAgent Drive" but when click on it I get the following error message: Failed to mount "FreeAgent Drive". Unknown file system 'ntfs'

What do I need to do to fix this? Any help in a step-by-step that' what you need to do kind of way would be great as I'm not very technical

Yeah, it works with any external drive and you may not even have to do that if your drive is formatted with FAT32. If the drive is NTFS it will still work if you do the sudo yum install ntfs-3g.

I have a Maxtor (sorry, don't know the name but it is just a bit bigger than my iPhone), 250GB and it works great!

I don't remember the details now but a while back there was a report out that "FreeAgent Drives" would not work with Linux. I don't know if that has changed or not but you should look into it.

    Hi Asa

You input it in something called the terminal. Depending on what you've already done, the way to access your terminal is open up the file manager then file>terminal

    Type in there.

I've got ntfs-3g installed and I still get the 'cannot mount' error. I've gone into terminal and tried DF to see what was available and It's not their either. Which really I suppose would make sense.
