Hi, I have finally finished the stable version of my tool, a1ctl, similar in its concept to eeectl but for the Aspire One.

    Features:

    - no installation needed
    - small memory footprint (~5Mo)
    - complete fan management, with stopped/slow/auto fan modes
    - support newest bios, from v0.3109 to v0.3305
    - CPU speed management (XP only)
    - fast screen resolution changes, with 1024×768 scrolled and downscaled modes (XP only)
    - can enable/disable webcam/ethernet/wifi to reduce power usage
    - can be started with windows automatically
    - option to prevent HDD clicks
    - show temperature & battery in tray icon
    - customizable icons & colors via .ini file
    - integrated ACPIEC driver patching to prevent log writing

Note: full source code is available, cause I think sharing knowledge is the minimum for a community tool.

i'm guessing you need .net installed to be able to run this app?

no, it's a native app, so it doesn't need .Net 2.0.

I am not at home, so I can't test it yet, but how well does the slow speed fan option work?

Can it keep the unit fairly well cooled under normal circumstances? I.E not 100% cpu usage for hours on end.

    Nodo,

I want the fan to run constantly in slow mode until the temperature reaches 55 degrees Celsius.
When the temperature exceeds 55 it will go in to auto mode.
When it drops below 55 it will run in slow mode again.
    Are these the correct settings?

BTW, It appears to be working properly. I've tested the fan and display control. Oh, does the devices tab toggle power for WIFI, LAN and the Webcam?

Then you need to install the VB6 runtime ;)

PGH_One_User> Yes, those settings are correct and yes, the device menu activate/desactivate the ethernet/wifi/webcam to reduce power usage.

    Just an update...

I've been running for hours and everything seems to be working correctly. Fan is switching to auto (high) and low when it should. This is a very nice piece of software. Thank you for your effort and that you for sharing it.

BTW, I'm running XP Home and bios v0.3304 on my AOA150.

The fan control seems to work fine in Vista. Changed the battery time color easily in the .ini file and hoping that the CPU speed management is also going to work in Vista. Turning off the hardware also works in Vista.

Interesting. It seems to work well. XP SP3, Bios 3305, A150 AAO. Had the ticking HDD issue with the Seagate 7200.3, was using eeehdd to stop it but your app seems to solve that as well.

Is there a way for future versions to show the temp? Perhaps as a balloon popup option when putting mouse over the icon in system tray?

Can someone point me to what exactly I need to install in Vista to make this work?

It already show the temp in the tray icon ;) And you can even display it full size (without the icon, just the text) if you prefer, by changing the "showFullSizeTempIcon" option in the .ini file.

Sorry, but the program doesn't work correctly for me using 3305 and Vista. Any fan setting works only for a couple of seconds and after that it goes to full speed and then starts alternating between full and stopped.

HI Noda, thanks for the great piece of software. So far everything seems to work fine on my aa1, except for the cpu throttling control. Both battery and ac are set to dynamic. When I am on battery, the CPU is dynamic, and the netbook running well under 60deg. However, on AC, the CPU is not actually dynamic and stays at 1.6GHz, with temperature consistently over 60 and frequently going over 65. I even tried setting to 800 MHz on AC and it still stayed at 1.6GHZ.

While performance is a little better at 1.6GHz, I'd rather have the cpu speed be dynamic so that it will run cooler. Does anyone else have similar issues and know how to adjust the settings?

    Thanks.

I have installed the VB6 runtime files and still get the error message referenced above: Files missing or invalid.

did you re-register the mscomctl.ocx file?

    start -> run -> regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx
