I am trying to change from Linux to XP and to do that i want to use my external cd rom. It is a Samsung DVD-writer that Linux recongnizes from file manager. I can see the xp install files here. However, even though i have updated the bios to 3305 (from 3304), and selected the cd as the boot device, it still does not boot to the cd.

    Any suggestions?

Are you certain that you burned the xp CD or DVD as a bootable image? That is about the only reason I can think of that it wouldnt work. It is also a good idea to burn at slow speed when creating a bootable CD or DVD, so maybe the data was corrupted if it was burned at too high of a speed.
