    Randomware is a hugely worrying trend. I would strongly advise everyone to make backups in addition to using anti-malware software.

    I even read about Synology NAS units (which people use for backups), succumbing to ransomware :(.

    I agree totally, your backups need to be remotely situated or removed from your machine
    any plugged in backup device will also be infected.
