8GB SSD swap out to 16GB. Problems.

I have just purchased a 16GB SSD from an aspire one to upgrade from my current 8GB which has bad sectors and is freezing. It arrived this morning (second hand from flee bay) and when installed it shows none in the BIOS. Can the original 8GB ribbon be used as the drive was supplied with 2 shorter flat ribbons which don't seem to reach the board, or am I missing another interface which isn't in an 8GB equiped AOA110? Why isn't it showing up. Have I missed something?
