8GB SDHC card in expansion slot not increasing total memory

I inserted a new 8GB SDHC in the Storage Expansion slot and the amount of storage didn't change. I ran through the process File->Upgrade Expansion Card and still nothing. Every time I insert the card, 10 items appear even after reformatting.

Any suggestions?

I used to have the same problem before. I just rebooted / ejected / inserted the SD card and after a while it was recognized by unit and it expanded the memory.
