751h and SSD

Discussion in 'Acer Aspire One' started by BlackAtomizer, Sep 6, 2011.

  1. Hi everbody,

is there anybody using the AspireOne 751h with a SSD harddisk?
I had problems installing Windows 7. The installation program freezes
my netbook as it tries to format the SSD with NTFS. If I use GParted
I can format the SSD with NTFS. Also the AS SSD Benchmark freezes
the netbook after running through. I formated the SSD with my Desktop
PC and I could install Windows 7 and as far as I can say all runs fine.
Only the AS SSD Benchmark freezes. ATTO and CrystalDiskMark are
running without any freezes. Has anybody else the same problems?
Or are there anny known issues with the 751h and a SSD harddisk?
The SSD is a Patriot Torxq2 64 GB.

    Thanks in advance!

I used an OCZ Agility in my netbook (751h) for a while, and it barely made any different in speed. I wouldn't waste the time and effort to install an SSD into this machine. I feel that the bottleneck is in the processor, not the hard drive.

Crucial SSDs work as discused in this link.

But like kered424 I wouldn't do but for practical reasons. SSDs are so expensive. If I want a faster computer, I'd get one with another processor such AMDs E350 or Pentium or i3 chips. It would be cheaper than buying an SSD. Just my opinion.

To anyone having issues with an SSD during formatting during the install: You'll have to move the ssd to a different laptop/desktop system, then when the install reboots poweroff before it gets past bios, pull the ssd and put it back into the netbook and continue the install. It will then work fine, windows works perfectly.

It was actually easier this way since my computer has a DVD drive.

I would recommend adding an SSD to this netbook, things like office 2010 load up instantly with no lag, same for opera browser (hardware accelerated page rendering). The cpu will feel a lot faster when it doesn't have to wait on the hard disk. But you still can't do stuff like 720p flash in full screen, i get about 9fps on youtube.
