i think the 2gb ram is a bios/processor limitation forced my intel.

kinda like the older aa0's, 512 soldered on being channel 1, the memory slot being #2. these would not work at all if you inserted a 2gb stick.

If the chipset would allow 4gb installed on each channel then it would be a possibility. Intel's tech sheet on the chipset would tell us for sure! When I had mines apart, I only saw one slot for ram. Maybe another connector can be soldered (if thats possible, maybe digikey?), I didn't check the layout of the mobo.

chipsets for the Intel Atom is limited to 2Gb.... until they make the CPU run on other types of chipsets, you're stuck with 2Gb of RAM.

We are talking about the Acer Aspire One's here.... in case you forgot what the thread and forum is about. I'm talking about the board they include with the Atom CPU on netbooks. They are all(as far as I know) all limited to 2Gb. None can be upgraded to more than that, yet.

............No im talking about a 1945 ford truck.............

    YES
and the acer with the 945 has a 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller .

the Memory controller Has Maximum Capacity 4096 MBytes. "4Gig"

Only 1 SODIMM slot is why but that is not that big of a problem
just like the d250 has only 1 sata drive but just "tap" into the other sata port.
or it even has IDE just add a CF card to it or another hdd.
or we Add More USB Ports . :p
    Its called Modding!

the 945 you can have More than 2Gig

The Other boards were ONLY to show that the 945 and 82801Gbm can do more than 2Gig.

I have to agree with Tamrac. Maybe the Admins here could create a "Mod" forum for those who enjoy that pastime (Oh wait, there is one: Hardware - Hacks / Mods - it just needs a specific area for the 10.1 mods).

While I occasionally enjoy seeing how someone has modded their machine (and marveling at their skill), I believe the purpose of the main portion of this Aspire One 10 forum is providing support and information regarding machines in their standard configurations - I mean, they are called "Technical Advice/Support: Aspire One 10" not "Extreme Modding" :)

Having so many posts on topics of how to hack, rig, disassemble, solder, etc. a $300 machine to make it a $500 machine (if you don't fry it of course) in this forum just seems unuseful to the majority who come here looking for help with some issue they're having and who will be lucky to even replace their easily replaceable SODIMM. Of course, it could just be me... :)

Actually you THINK it is in the right place, but it's Davidcowling and/or glibdud who decides whether it is, and ultimately it is King who has the final say in that matter.

    @ nedlyj :
If you think a thread is in the wrong place, do not post in the thread about it. The threadstarter can't do anything about it it, and have posted it in that section, since he/she thought that was the right place. He/she can't move it, if it is in the wrong section.

Instead, send a PM to either Davidcowling, glibdud, or King, containing a link to the thread, and ask if the thread might be better placed in another section, specifying your reasons for thinking so. The moderator or the administrator will then handle it, without raising the signal-to-noise ratio in the thread, and without people getting insulted or writing harshly to each other in the thread.

Thanks Dutch. Yes I know the general protocol when there's a problem (i've run notebook forums for years) - but I didn't consider this a problem, just a friendly note. I wasn't trying to create noise, or insult anyone. If radioman thought my post was insulting he's much thinner-skinned than I give him credit for :D And, I got the rolling eyes response I expected, so... no big deal. :)

Ok, so back on the topic (regardless of where the thread is located). Exactly where could you locate a 2nd SODIMM within the D250 that would appropriately dissipate the heat? I mean, just because it's theoretically possible doesn't make it practical. But the inside looks pretty tight.

    all things are possible
if your not interested in the concept of 4 gig in your AA0-D250
    dont Bother with this thread.
and there is PLENTY of room for a Extra SODIMM inside along with the other mods.
If you want to do it you will find a way.
And for practical that depends on the individual Doing OR Not doing the mods to there acer.
What might not be practical to you Just might be to Another.
"were there is a will there is a way"

    so shhh Behave ;)

If digikey, or another source has the SODIMM holder available, then it should be a matter of soldering it in. as long as it fits a mini ddr2 stick, should be good after that. Hmm, worse case trim the inside of the plastic housing, but nothing worse than that if theres a spot there.

it is still working like a Charm.
    if that can be done..........
Then a second SODIMM with 200 wires aint that bad.
