    Hi.

    I have a european Aspire One 722 (C60, 500 GB harddrive).
It does not come with the integrated 3G modem but i know that some countries do have this model with integrated 3G.
I would like to know the part references in order to add myself the modem.
In that case, where are we supposed to plug the SIM card?
What about the antenna? Does it work without one?

    thanks for your help.

You need to solder a simcard holder on to the motherboard, if it doesnt have one. And add two antennas, if they arent there. Chances are high they arent, since for cost saving reasons, the models without 3G modems included, doesn't have the simcard holder, nor the antennas. Then purchase either a Option 3G pcie module, or a Ericsson 3G pcie module, depending on the version used in the 722's.

Your best bet would be to get a 3G equipped model, and sell the non 3G equipped one, if you want internal 3G. It saves you a lot of hassle, as well as voiding your warranty.

    Thanks for the answer.

I think i'm going to keep using my 3G usb modem to save the hassle.

What useful use could i still have for the free miniPCIe slot?

that's good question. Cannot seem to find any information about anyone successfully installing an SSD there, which would be fantastic to have the OS on a small 16GB or 32GB SSD and the data capacity of a big HDD

The miniPCIe has a usb port. I have seen some mods that use this to install various usb devices. usually flashdrives)
There is no 5V rail there so you have to get the 5V line from somewhere else on the motherboard.
Personally, I think it's too much trouble to mess with.

    Hi there,

I have an AAO D250 and I have put a Broadcom HD Decoder card in the spare slot.
It has improved online video slightly but to be honest i'm not 100% convinced it was worth it.
Other than 3G, the only other thing I would possibly try and put in there is Bluetooth if you dont have it.

I have found a range of Mini PCIe modules from a company called Commell.
They can be purchased through RS Components. (available worldwide)
The SD card module seems most likely to work. And the USB3 module is exciting (but will require some effort to re-engineer things and needs an extra 5V connection)
