Not sure if this has been covered, but after seeing the blocked-off spot for a 3g sim card behind my AAO battery, I emailed Acer to inquire as to whether or not an upgarde would be available in the future for those of us that don't have integrated 3g. This is their response:

    Dear Scott Tofte,

Please note that Aspire One system cannot be upgraded to include that SIM card.

So does that mean we are all screwed for 3g support? Do we have to hack? USB modem?

Yes, if you want 3G you'll have to use a USB modem or hack up your own internal solution. If you open the panel on the underside of your AA1, you'll find the space where the mini-PCI 3G modem is intended to go, but (at least on most models, if not all) there is no header to plug a mini-PCI card into, so there is no chance of adding one yourself unless you're good at soldering and can add the missing header yourself.
