except the 945GSE doesn't support that much memory. I dont' think it matters if you gave it 8 slots, it would only be able to address 2GB regardless.

    yeah
945 can address up to 2GB.

    anyone want to try?
Nobody bothers even trying these days, because we all dcided that it was impossible. But that was on the old bios, who knows, acer might have (i know its unlikely) an option to disable the 512 when 2gb is inserted, but not actually have an option for it in bios, just does it automatically.

if you read the specs of the 945 chipset you should see that, by design, it only supports 2GB of memory.
.. yeah, no one bothers reading the datasheets anymore.

also, if you read the (millions of) threads, you will see someone has indeed purchased the 2GB module, fitted it and then promptly removed it when the AAO couldnt POST anymore..

yes im not a retard.... i have been a member for ages and ages, when people did that first, and when KiNg posted a thread asking if it ws possible, only for people to reply and say no.
But as with the Wind, they had the same problem and it was fixed by a bios update
so all im saying is its worth a try

    :?:

    they did try.
    not working.

the only thing that could help is if Acer was releasing a BIOS upgrade that disables the onboard memory (but even then, my guess is that the max RAM per DIMM on AAO is 1GB).
otherwise, as i stated, it is a PHISICAL limitation of the chipset.

well, the MSI Wind could disable the onboard memory and use the full 2GB of memory in one So-Dimm slot.

    exactly
which is why we are at the mercy of Acer.
In any case the 2.5GB are a no no.

Ok if the chipset limits us to 2G and the bios won't let us disable the onboard memory, can't we just physically disconnect it? Cut the power trace to the chips or an enabling wire or something. I'm not sure exactly what, I seem to have misplaced my spare DIMMS so I can't look at them right now, but the schematic and chip pinnouts should give us the answer.

I have the one gig version, so would I be able to get a 1 gig stick and put it in that extra slot as shown in the youtube vid?

Not unless you have the full 1GB soldered on the motherboard.

I think the wind has the same chipset, so the same limitations, but they can get 1gb in each slot
we have had this discussion over and over, no point of having it again...

    dude...

    we have 1 slot.
    1slot x 1GB = .. 1GB

if the slot supports 2GB dimms (and i dont thing so) and we manage to disable the onboard 512MB, then maybe its feasible.

Read this in the comments on a AAO RAM upgrade..... Anyone thinks it makes sense, or even works?

""it is possible to use a 2 gig stick, you have to put it in a laptop that will accept more than 2 gigs ram, alter the stick so it reads as 1 gig. The only other option is to keep harassing acer to release a bios update that will disable the integrated stick""

given that MSI Wind has the option to disable onboard memory (512MB) to allow you to use a 2GB stick, i don't see why it is not possible. Will Acer do that? that's a whole different question.

NO, YOU CAN'T USE A 2GB RAM MODULE. DON'T TALK IN CAPS LIKE YOU'RE DEMANDING SOMETHING. NO ONE LIKES THAT. SEE HOW ANNOYING IT IS?

People have problems using the search bar...It's so sad.
