So, is it worth upgrading if you already own the 751? For most users, I don't think so. The 751 has all of the major features of the 1410: full-size keyboard, 11.6" screen, long battery life. Besides, the 1410 still doesn't handle streaming video very well (high-def youtube fails). And many forms of 1080p video also fail. And you get less battery life in the 1410, which only comes with a 4400 MAh battery and no bluetooth.

If you wait 6 months, netbooks will have: Dual-core CULV processors, Nvidia Ion graphics, convertible touchscreens, and longer battery life than the 1410.

Anyway, that's me playing the devil's advocate for not being so hasty to upgrade. Netbooks evolve so quickly, and upgrading every 2-3 months will become an expensive hobby.

Tracksmart, you've got that right but then they will be called ultra portables.

This thread wasn't meant to be an invitation to upgrade. I just wanted to let those interested in the formfactor know that there is something new on the way. Here are some benchmarks compared to 751h. There's also a battery eater benchmark comparison.

The dual core models will be out end of october with Win7, you won't have to wait 6 months ;)

Good point Mzmini. They will be ultraportables. But the prices will be near netbook territory.

And good link Mali. It's hard to tell what's going on with the battery test (I don't speak whatever language this is). It looks like it must be a 3-cell Acer 751 they tested against.

Too bad they used a 751 with the 2200mAh battery instead the 5200 i have in my 6-cell :( but how in hell can the 13,3 Timeline last longer than the 11,6 WITH a SSD instead of a Harddrive? Crazy soviets!

Comparing it to a 2200mAh in the 751h is a bit unfair, I agree. On the other side the 751h's six cell battery sticks out the back, making it more bulky while the six cell in the 1410/1810 is flush with the case.

As I understand it, ITC got an engineering sample and no production model. The production model doesn't have an SSD and only 2GB of RAM, which will reduce the benchmark scores.

Phil said, that his 1810t lasts over 9 hours with Wifi on.

I've done much research on the timeline series and came to the conclusion that it is made for me. I will buy the high-end version 1810TZ(dual core su4100 1.3GHz) in october. It will replace both my A110 and my 15.4" notebook. The su4100 is only a little slower than my big laptop, while having four times the battery life at a fraction of the weight.

Exactly. It's not worth it to jump to the 1410, which is available for pre-order right now in the US, when worthier models are on the horizon. Right now all you get is a bump up to a faster, but still slow, processor. I'll also be keeping my eyes out for 11-12" notebooks with dual core CULV processors.

I just hope that Acer will decide to bring the 1810TZ to the United States. Right now, the 1410, with it's wimpier battery and processor, is the only one they plan to ship over here...
