I really hope you can post us some pictures and what 1.8" drive you use, because I REALLY want to use a 1.8" HD, but I don't know how and what to use. Thank you very much for your help!

heres my aone with 1.8" toshiba harddrive
    [IMG]

installed xp pro (full installation in ntfs) within 28 mins
no more lag and i get 20/20+ read write speed..same goes with playing videos though i havent tried hd resolution yet. dvd movies plays smoothly.

now im happy multi tasking with my aone.
the project seems to be easy enough, with just some little cutting and double sided tape, and your done. just make sure you get the right zif connector for toshiba, as the ones with hitachi is a bit thinner, i got the hard drive from my ipod 5th generation.

ill post some details soon when i get back overseas, too bad, i cannot bringmy aone with me, as my comp will provide me with a big lappy.. as for now, the above pic will just give you an idea how to do it

The C4K60 pin out is reversed from that of the stock ZIF cable. i.e. Pin 1 is on the wrong side. You must have a ZIF cable that flips the pin out. Basically make a connection on one side of the cable to the mobo, and then on the opposite flat side you connect to the hard drive.

Toshiba and some Hitachi drives dont seem to have this problem.

This is what the ribbon cables look like (I labeled them to make things easier to understand):

I purchased 10 of the Toshiba ribbon cables. So I guess if anyone wants one cheaper than eBay..let me know..haha since I have 9 extras.

bannedi, that is a correct drive to use, all you'll need is the cable i just mentioned and ability to trim a little fat off the internal guts to make things fit. The double stick tape is the one that has a thin layer of foam for better vibration proofing and to keep it from wandering around. Note how the HDD is sitting in his case with the label facing up..that's what makes it easy to see how he placed it (thanks to grabejud for placing the pic).

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have bought a 80Gb Toshiba drive, can I use the cable that is now connected to the SSD or do I need a flip cable?

you can try it, but i suggest to buy a spare zif cable just incase its cheap, the toshiba doesnt need the flip cable
havent tried hitachi though.looking at the photos that i uploaded, its pretty easy to apply this mod

hitachi drive will almost certainly need something besides the stock cable..im just wonder if the 1.8" mod is gonna require the filter on the flip cable when i install it...that thing sure is a pain to work with

    1.8 HDD 5/8mm thick

The bigger ZIF / LIF Toshiba Drives >80GB are 8mm thick instead of 5mm.

Has anybody modded with an 1.8'' 8mm thick drive or is positive 8mm will fit also?

    Thanks

I have used 100gb Toshiba drive (MK1011GAH) in my AA one. Works fine and fits nicely in...

    mmikko,
    good news, thanks.
    I have ordered yesterday a Toshiba MK8025GAL 80GB LIF which is 5mm.
Energy consumption is pretty much the same as SSD, so I expect no excess heat.
