Hi everyone, I'm a professional photographer (yes, an actual-7-year-properly-trained-one) and I can easily process between 1000 and 10,000 shots (depending on what's needed) using Photoshop CC... I know Lightroom/other software is probably better for such vast amounts, but I know Photoshop inside out already.
When I've got down time, when it's too late for the neighbours for me to start playing guitar or when a film or book just won't do, I would use my laptop for games - pretty much at the moment just AC Black Flag, Rainbow Siege, Hitman Absolution, Just Cause 3, GTA V, Metal Gear Solid and ARMA.
My laptop would also be for music (as well as while editing) and of course internet/emailing/youtube/etc.
I've got 2TB worth of external storage already, and don't mind buying more.

So, if you've lasted this long through all my drivel... my main question is would this spec stand up to what I'm needing? :
Would it be worth looking at a 32GB RAM and an M.2 SSD Drive, or leave them for years to come to upgrade to?

This should be enough to handle anything you throw at it for the next 2 years at least. The only thing that I would add is if you are processing that many photos/layers, would it be appropriate to consider RAID as well ?
The GTX 970M is enough for modern games and in the future too, but you haven't specified the spec of your screen (1080p is okay, anything more than that and you might need to reduce the settings).
32GB RAM would not be necessary, as not many current programs use the whole 16GB RAM anyway.
By the way, just letting you know that this laptop will probably weight more than a desktop lol.

Wow that is a killer laptop and I feel you would be good enough for whatever you throw at it. The i7 processor comes with 8 MB of cache which means the laptop will run be extremely fast, the SSD drive and 32 GB RAM notwithstanding. Also I feel 32 GB will be a waste of money as I have seen that that much RAM will never be used by any program unless you are running scientific computations on that machine. The UCB 3.0 ports are a bonus.

This computer would do the trick. The size of the hard drive isn't too big though and if you have the possibility to get more, it would be better, you didn't mention the screen resolution. If you are editing images the higher the resolution of your screen the better.
