Well I figured since Acer hasn't got their act together I would pick up the slack for them. So here it is, a fully functioning Recovery Disc that can be used to restore any Aspire One system that shipped with XP. In reality this is simply an OEM copy of Windows XP Home SP3 with the official Acer Aspire One drivers injected into it using nlite. A rather simple process and one that anyone here could easily do, but I figured I would save everyone the time.

During the installation Windows will ask for a cd key, that key can be found on the bottom of the Aspire One. Once the Windows installation finishes everything should be ready to go (all drivers install automatically during the Windows installation), the only thing you will need to do is connect to the internet and validate your key. If for whatever reason this process fails you may be required to phone Microsoft (takes about 5 minutes or so with the fully automated system), just follow the instructions on the screen. However for me the internet validation worked without a hitch.

I have also included a folder labeled "Extra" on the disc. Inside you will find the alternate webcam driver (liteon) should the integrated SuYin drivers not work for you. As well I have included the latest Combined Community Codec Pack. Once installed you shouldn't have to worry about ever finding another codec ever again (I know I haven't). Also included is the update file for Windows Media Player 11 and some rather nice 1024x600 wallpapers to get you started.

Even though I am a Linux user, I appreciate your efforts, I am sure the XP folk will be happy with this.
    Thanks.

Excellent, thanks for this. Does it boot nicely from USB or is it better suited to an external CD drive?

I have not tried the USB method, but this is the same as any other windows xp disc so it should work.

Wow, great of you to do that.

I would dearly love to have a hard copy of the Acer OEM XP home to keep with my Acer manuals etc in case my hdd crashes. I only have a few copies of XP Pro, and they are also OEM for other brand PCs, so this is perfect.

So can you help me out as I don't know what to do to save a hard copy.

I download this & then can I burn it on a CD to keep for the day, if or when it ever happens. Would it then just be like a normal OEM recovery disc you pop in (yes I know I'd need an external CD drive :D ) and off you go?

I have Nero 6, so I'd need to know a little bit of instructions on what to do as I only ever burnt music discs & sometimes a duplicate of my Dvds.

Thanks to the swedish uTorrent user with his 1mb/s upload speed!

I changed my mind, i think i have enough bandwidth for direct download.

    edit: links removed

@imcrazy: It would be helpful to include the link on the first post to easily spot it.

I hope i'll get my A150 this friday, but this forum has been so helpful i want to give something back.

Yes it is just like a normal OEM. As for nero, just right click on the file, choose "open with" --> Nero and burn from there.

Also thanks daniel33! I have modified my original post to include the link.

    Thank you so much! :D :D :D

I want to set up a dual-boot (XP/Linux), but was afraid to tinker with partitions without the security of a recovery disc. Your time and generosity are much appreciated.
