Have you used any sort of plastic insulator between the drive and the motherboard? I can't see anything on your pictures, so I'm a bit curious to know whether it's safe to leave the thing unisolated or not.

Well I guess I should have watched the video first ;)

OK, foam padding then. Neat idea.

Good job, and thanks a lot for the videos, they are VERY good and explanatory.

Do you think a 8 mm thin harddrive would fit? I thinking of buying a Toshiba HDD 100GB MK1011GAH.

I seem to remember someone here installed a 60GB Toshiba that was 8mm thick. But you'll probably have to trim the plastic post to fit it in there.

@Bossieman 5 mm drives fit without trimming the posts (although with the double-sided adhesive foam it's a tight fit). 8 mm drives should fit after trimming the posts.

How will an ipod-drive fit in there? I have a 4th gen 20gb ipod I don't use because it doesn't support FLAC. I was going to slap rockbox on it, but I would much rather strap it to my aspire one!

I cracked my ipod open and it sported one of these. It looks like it will fit perfectly.

Anyone have a good idea on how I can migrate to the new disk? I could of course reinstall linpus on the hdd, but that would mean a lot of configuration I have already done.

@ryback that drive won't work. It's not equipped with a ZIF connector, but a micro ATA connector.

@Jefri, it's gonna be 2-3 weeks before I do the 3G mod because I'm still waiting for some parts and I'm off to Burning Man for 10 days soon.

I have ordered the disc now so I will give update later. I will also try to ad a small (usb)TV tuner inside (and the antenna :geek: ) , together with a E220 3G modem and a USB hub and Bluetooth.

The gool is USB-hub, BT, 120GB HDD TV-tuner and 3G. I am concerned about the hub, will it be able to support a BT module, 3G and the TV tuner :?:

@Jefri, no, my Bluetooth mod works without interfering with the built-in wireless or disabling any of the available USB ports. I just connected the Bluetooth module to the unused USB signal (pins 36 & 38) on the mini PCIe connector used by the WiFi card (which only uses the PCIe signals). WiFi still works just like normal with the same switch and LED. Turning the WiFi on and off does not affect the Bluetooth module - it has to be turned on and off by enabling/disabling it in the device manager. However, the Bluetooth module goes to sleep when the computer goes to sleep (standby) to preserve the battery.
