I keep on hearing problems regarding Steam games or games in general with Linux. Is Linux an OS fit for a gamer or should I just stick with Windows?

There's a much better range of games available for Windows, so if you're a gamer I'd stick with Windows - that's what I'd do at least :).

Linux is definitely not a gaming OS, simply because the market for Linux games is small. Developers prefer to spend time developing games for the platform their client base adheres to the most, and that is perfectly understandable. I find it awesome that Valve are trying their best to bring gaming to Linux using the Steam platform, but it's still a very long way to go. If you play games most of the time, definitely stick with Windows. Or just dual-boot. :)
