    Hi there,

I just noticed that a new bios arrived yesterday, 3210... Has anyone tried it?
Maybe it fixes the CPU load jittering the 3208 introduced... (Why is there no changelog, Acer?)

Been running it for about an hour now and already got the first freeze. Everything as "normal".

TeDeV, I think the freezing is unrelated to the new bios - it's a "static" problem for some and not others.
It's being discussed in another thread. I don't see it either...

either way, this laptop is a mess. i used to have 1gb ram and i could overclock the cpu to 1,48. right now i have 2gb corsair at 800mhz and i can just go to 1,38 (from 1,33). and it is pretty unstable.

personally i believe that this laptop should never go public. too bad, because i like it too much, battery life rocks, design is pretty good, 2gb ram possible, bluetooth , etc. it is just Intel that keeps this nice laptop from working, with their stupid chipset - cpu - vga.

when is nvidia coming in to play?

so any news on what has changed with this new bios?

    Hey, lighten up :D

I was as down as you are but after getting rid of the bad 2GB, it seems rock solid. I can play 720 video perfectly now with 1 GB, that was staggering when I had 2GB! I am really beginning to love it now.

We have a job ahead of us finding out what RAM is really uasable, as this machine sure is picky.

I can't update my BIOS, because winphlash is being lame. It gives me a "Cannot load driver C:\...PHLASHNT.SYS. Please check your accounts, if you have no administrator privilege, please login again! The specified service has been marked for deletion. Error Code 1072" Anyone have a clue how to help me out?

Sorry for bouncing this message a little, but I can't find the BIOS updates on the Dutch Acer website. Is there someone who can tell me what the best place is to get a BIOS update from?

    thanks!

For those having trouble flashing their bios because the system wants you to run as administrator, try this:

Run the process as they suggest.
The first thing the program does is extract the files contained in the exe into the users temp directory.

Grab a copy of those files and put them in an easier to get to directory like C:\bios\
    exit the program.

open up a dos command window and follow the the steps from this link to run as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM .
    http://security.fnal.gov/cookbook/LocalSystem.html

    Steps reproduced here:
    1) Start task scheduler if it isn't already running: Net Start "Task Scheduler"
    2) Schedule a task to open cmd: at 12:55 /interactive c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
(set the time to two minutes ahead of your current system time)
    3) Wait for new CMD window to appear
    4) In the new CMD window, change to the drive\directory where you copied the files
    5) run the flash program: Winphlash.exe

Runs perfectly, just as the factory bios did.

    PS: Never had any freeze
