    Thank you rjm for an excellent guide.

    One really does wonder why the Aspire does not come configured this way as standard, or at least with a pair of shell scripts to switch between this and the Noddy layout. I'm an old Unix/Linux user from way back and having just got an Aspire in the standard state. I now realise why some new, non-techie, users are put off Linux.

    I now just need to find how to change some of the drag/drop behaviour to offer move/copy in Thunar, etc.
